Born to the prestigious T'Serrar name, Calates lived a life dedicated to the art of war for over a century. During his early career he pushed himself to his limits during every training session and eventually went on the lead the famous squad 28. At the age of 119 he mated to his squads engineer Saraya, the couple was reported as being extremely happy and planned to stay in the city to care for their first child. Later that same year however, squad 28 was destroyed while hiking in a long declared safe zone. About a dozen Rantoid managed to work their way trough the secured area and ambushed the well known squad. Calates showed up at a nearby encampment, mortally wounded and in severe shock. Medics managed to safe him from his injuries, but he was expected to die soon from mate withdrawal either way. Two years later he showed up again, being only the second Lunathai to ever survive the loss of a mate, during the invasion of the Rantoid home planet as a lone warrior seeking his death. He dissapeared for decades from the publics eye after the war until in 347 (Earth date: 2161) he was given the rank of Knight-Commander and put in command of the ULC flagship Angel of War.
In his younger days Calates was known as a happy and driven young man who put everything he had in whatever he decided to do. During his time in the Thai warrior guild he was known as a composed and quiet individual, never showing fear or doubt to his fellow warriors. Surviving logs of his squad show him as a friendly and caring individual, a man who wanted nothing more then to see people smile. The loss of his mate left him in a completely different state, he survived but was never the same. Becoming careless, calculating and merciless. Years later he would be referred to as a soulless, a condition that left him with little ability to feel emotion but also enabled him to operate a gravity controlling battle suit.
Knight-Commander Calates T'Serrar's armor is a curious sight. On first glance it appears to be a mixture of the advanced Triari gravity control suit and the sturdier standard assault variant. Further study shows components from other modern battle suits and even parts of far older suits, some of which are not his own. This is a tradition among old warriors known as "relic armor", pieces of fallen comrades' equipment are carried into battle to honor them and usually hold specific meaning to the warrior that carries them. What these relics mean is a mystery only know to the Commander himself, although some of them are commonly associated with defiance, devotion and sacrifice.
