GC22 Chicop by Calates GC22 Chicop by Calates
Model: GC22 Chicop
Type: Assault Vehicle
Manufacturer: Saiion Weaponry
Armaments:
20mm Javelin Turret

The GC22 Chicop (Tji-kop) was named after the fastest animal on Lunathan. This armored behemoth of graphene and titanium can easily reach speeds up to 250 km/h while maintaining amazing accuracy with it's Javelin turret. Designed to be an all round fighting machine it's armored, armed and capable of transporting an entire Thai Squad and all of their cargo. The soldiers sit in the back of the vehicle close to the doors, while the driver is seated in the front behind a high-tech virtual interface. This gives the driver a full view of his/her surroundings with a weapons control seat behind the driver. While all seats are accessible from inside the vehicle, additional hatches can be found on both sides and the top of the vehicle allowing for a quick entrance and exit.

Yeah and it's kinda embarrassing if your high-tech soldiers die because someone blocked the door on their car.

Like most other ULC weaponry it's a magnetic accelerator that fires tungstun rounds, the Javelin is a Saiion designed weapon and variants of it are found on all their ships so . . . kinda odd that you ask that now :)

Oh right yeah, they all use rail guns.

Not exactly, a magnetic accelerator uses magnets that switch on and off in a series to pull an object (assuming said object is attracted by magnetism) to high speeds. I think it's commonly referred to as a Gauss cannon but I'm not entirely sure it's the same thing.

A rail gun uses . . . well, a rail. One that guides a magnetic field, which is why I used that concept for the experimental plasma cannon on my last ship.

Hm, yeah you're right, its a gauss gun (also known as coil gun, looked it up on wiki).

I know they're aliens, but looking out our technology today, the coil gun seems weak and skimpy compaired to the rail gun that the US navy already has (it being able to launch a 7kg projectile at supersonic speads.........).

So are coil guns in every version I've seen, they're the main weapon in Mass Effect and the most powerful ship weapon in Halo. And since it's easier to maintain then a rail gun I picked them. I don't know where you heard about the military having rail guns but they are incredibly expensive with modern day tech. There literally are rails in there which tend to bend and break the weapon. They do exist tough, like many other 'sci-fi' weapons.

Wikipedea, and having is something else than actually using. ^^
The US navy only ever tested them with amazing results, but no ones' wallet is big enough for them to be produced for "active service".
But I'm giving it 5 years and some one who sees profit in the next war...

So far what I've seen from coil guns is pretty impressive, but not enough to replace the conventional fire arm.
If I missed out something, though, please show.

True that.

A ship version of a coil gun would be able to fire far larger projectiles at far greater speeds then you would with gunpowder, the lack of that gunpowder would also mean there is less need for storage. Since a coil gun (tough this would be true for railguns aswell) fires metal slugs without need for anything else there wouldn't be need for an cases, which would be slightly cheaper. Not to mention that it's slightly safer since you're not firing stuff trough an explosion in confined spaces.

I have my doubts they will be used as personal weapons in reality for a very long time, but this started with a question about the kind of weapons used by the ULC. They use badass magnetic accelerators for their weapons, they're the only ones in my universe to use them this much tough.
